A Game To Open Your Eyes

OUTCASTED –  a game that lets players experience the world through the eyes of a homeless person – is the winner of the Games for Change Students Challenge, an initiative by Games for Change Europe, Autodesk and Unity Technologies that aims to leverage important societal topics through the means of games.

Within the course of one year, 96 student teams from 13 countries had submitted concepts and prototypes for games with a real-world impact. Nine shortlisted games were finally selected to compete in the Games for Change Europe Awards. The jury consisting of game and media industry visionaries honored OUTCASTED at the Games for Change Europe Awards in Paris: “An impressive, smart and elegant approach to the subject with an immediate impact on the players.”

The winning team consisting of students from  Köln International School of Design and the Cologne Game Lab is thrilled: “It is amazing to get such a feedback by a sophisticated jury like this”, says game designer Volker Zerbe. “It is important for us to see that our concept has the impact we were hoping for. Our goal is to release a free-to-play beta version soon to reach the biggest audience possible.“

To further develop and to promote their project, the group will receive further support by Games for Change Europe including an all-in game development software package provided by the sponsors.
